Taking place on the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Mons Museum of Fine Arts, this exhibition pays tribute to the collector and patron Henri Glépin (1848-1898).
While we are familiar with this philanthropist's involvement in the development of public welfare and public hospitals in Mons, the vital importance of his legacy to the construction of the original Museum of Fine Arts and to building up the Mons museum collections is less well known.
In an attempt to compensate for this oversight, a selection of works from the collections of ceramics and coins bequeathed by Glépin to the city of Mons has been listed and studied: it offers a glimpse of the quality, diversity and richness of these collections, which have not been shown publicly since the closure of the Musées du Centenaire (Centenary Museums).
The exhibition is open to the public from 9 November 2013 to 9 February 2014
