Domestic treasures

The exhibition "Trésors domestiques" provided the opportunity to present a selection of some of the most beautiful ornaments produced by manufacturers within our region, complemented by a number of exceptional pieces produced by the Doyen d’ Havré glassworks, which is now closed. The passion of collectors has saved our domestic treasures from fading from memory.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the Mons-Borinage region was home to a large number of renowned ceramics manufacturers (Nimy, Baudour, Wasmuël, Saint-Ghislain, Dour, etc.).

They produced items that we both practical and decorative. Today, they have disappeared, but enlightened amateurs have contributed to keeping their memory alive, either by setting up a museum, as happened in Nimy, or by continuing to passionately collect pieces made by them.
