Serge Poliakoff Retrospective
From 25 October 2008 to 8 February 2009, BAM gave visitors the opportunity to see a retrospective of over a hundred works by Serge Poliakoff.
This was the first major Poliakoff show in Belgium and a wonderful chance to discover one of the masters of French abstraction.
Over a hundred works from the 1930s to the 1970s
Featuring works that have never been exhibited before as well as archival documents, this outstanding exhibition presented 35 years of Poliakoff's work, from the 1930s to the 1970s. The original staging brought visitors into a highly personal and multi-faceted world: watercolours responded to oil paintings, decorative fabrics to illustrated books.
The contrasting colours, overlapping forms and moulded material together created harmony.
Poliakoff's art spans the 20th century and speaks to everyone, for it invites dialogue as well as meditation.
